CEDAR PARK, Texas — Alvin Peter Hochstein, 79, died Oct. 2, 2020, in Cedar Park, Texas. After a brief period of declining health, Al died peacefully with his beloved wife, Heidi, and his son, Tom, by his side.

A visitation for Al is planned for Oct. 7, from 10-11 a.m., at the Beck Funeral Home, Cedar Park. All are invited to attend.

A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m., at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Killeen, Texas.

Al was born May 18, 1941, on a farm in rural Hartington, to Paul and Evelyn Hochstein, his own grandmother serving as midwife. The oldest of nine children, he helped on his family’s farm from a young age. He completed high school and trained to be a diesel mechanic before enlisting in the Air Force. Al served his country as a radar technician in both the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War. He spent his later years as a technical training instructor at Keesler Air Force Base, retiring as a Master Sergeant after 20 years of service. Al had a second career as a clerk at Broome’s and various convenience stores in Ocean Springs, Miss., where he was known as “Mister Al” and proud to provide “fresh hot coffee at all hours.” One of his customers, a fireman, saved his life by performing CPR on him after a sudden death cardiac arrest, giving him an additional 16 years. After Hurricane Katrina, he and his wife Heidi moved to Texas, where they became an integral part of their grandchildren’s lives.

Al was preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings, Dickie, Clare and Joe.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Heidemarie Christa; son, Thomas; daughter-in-law, Kerri; and grandchildren, Sarah, Evan and Alex; as well as, five brothers and sisters, Ron, Mary Jean, Dallas, Diane and Bobby.

People wishing to honor Al’s life are invited to make donations to the Wounded Warriors Family Support https://www. wwfs.org/
