COLERIDGE — Allen “Joe” Barnes, 67, rural Coleridge, died unexpectedly at his residence March 11, 2024.

No funeral services are being planned at this time.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington.

Allen Joseph was born Sept. 30, 1956, in Yankton, S.D., to Roger W. and Darlene A. (Howard) Barnes. Joe grew up in Sioux Falls, S.D., graduating from the Job Corps in Montana with a GED. He was in the United States Army for four years and honorably discharged in July 1983. Joe drove a truck for over 20 years and his travels would take him from coast to coast. He married Sherrie Lee Jorgensen Oct. 21, 1983. Allen Joe and Sherrie lived in Irene, S.D., for 15 years before moving to Coleridge in March 2021.

Joe loved to do model railroading, jet skiing, fishing and camping with his family.

Joe is survived by his wife of 40 years,Sherrie, Coleridge; five children, Krista Barnes, Sioux Falls, S.D.; James Barnes, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Cassandra Zurcher, Irene, S.D.; Nina Barnes, Coleridge; Terrance Barnes, Coleridge; and two sisters, Tamera Barnes, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Tricia Smith, Humbolt, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Darlene Barnes; and two brothers, Steven and Randy Barnes.
