LAUREL — Alice Margaret Graffis, 95, Laurel, died Jan. 4, 2019, at the Hillcrest Care Center, Laurel.
Visitation will be Jan. 10, at United Lutheran Church, Laurel, from 5-7 p.m., and will continue one hour prior to services Friday.
Funeral Services will be Jan. 11, at 10:30 a.m., at the United Lutheran Church, Laurel, with the Rev. Matthew Quanbeck officiating.
Burial will be at the New Holy Trinity Cemetery, Brainard, at 3 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Dale Trampe, Jason Graffis, Jordan Graffis, Mike Krenk, Marion Kobza, Andrew Kobza and Todd Graffis.
Honorary pallbearers will be Traci Trampe, Courtney Grindrod, Kelsey Graffis, Teresa Graffis, Jordan Graffis and Cayla Graffis.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Laurel.
Alice was born Dec. 15, 1923, to Adolph V. and Rose Agnes (Pauel) Kobza at the family farm near David City. Alice attended Holy Trinity Catholic School, Brainard. Alice married Adolph A. Scholz Aug. 7, 1947, and to that union a son, Adrian, was born. March 12, 1957, Alice married Raymond F. Graffis in the Danish Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Laurel, and to this union a daughter, Arlyce Rae, was born.
Alice and Raymond lived on their farm north of Laurel until retiring into Laurel in April 1997. On the farm, Alice enjoyed taking care of her family, her flower garden, gardening, and taking care of the farm cats. At Hillcrest, Alice enjoyed many of the activities they offered, especially if it involved music. Family members were blessed with being able to share Alice’s 95th birthday with her.
Alice was a member of the United Lutheran Church.
Alice is survived by her son, Adrian Scholz, Hartington; her daughter Arlyce Graffis, Laurel, and their friend Eugene Jones, Wayne; three stepsons and a daughter-in-law, Emory and Linda (Thompson) Graffis, Sioux City, Iowa; Kenneth Graffis, Summerville, S.C.; and Alan Graffis and special friend, Donna Dyer, Paris, Ill.; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers and a sister-in law, Marion and Betty Kobza, Dwight, and Andrew E. Kobza, David City; two sisters and brother-in-law, Leona Divis, Lincoln, and Sylvia and Leroy Ratkovec, Valparaiso; and nieces and nephews.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Emerich Kobza; husband, Raymond Graffis; grandson, Jared Graffis; brother-in-law, Art Divis; and sister-in-law and husband, Eleanor (Graffis) Carlson and Harold Carlson.
