WAYNE — Funeral Services for Alice M. Marshall, 85, Wayne, were April 9 at Evangelical Free Church, Concord. Visitation was Monday at Hasemann Funeral Home, Wayne. Interment Coleridge Cemetery, Coleridge Alice Marie (Swan) Marshall was born on March 1, 1939, near Bloomfield, to Walter and E. Rosina (Meier) Swan. She died April 4, 2024, in Wayne. Alice grew up near Coleridge and graduated from Coleridge High School in 1957. While working at the Farmer’s Union grocery store, she met the love of her life, Merton Marshall. The couple was married May 22, 1959, and was blessed with seven children. Together, they made their home in Hartington, Randolph, Wayne and Coleridge.

Alice enjoyed farm life, raising chickens, caring for animals, and gardening. She was artistically talented and often wrote stories about her animals and life events. Alice was passionate about her faith and sharing it with others. She was active in her local church, teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and ladies Bible studies. Alice uplifted others with her musical talents and spent over 60 years playing the piano and organ at her church and area care facilities.

Alice is survived by her children, Russell (Deanette) Marshall, Allen; Rosella Gonzalez, Elk Point, S.D.; Loretta (Tim) Heaton, Jefferson, S.D.; Estelle (James) Bierbower, Wakefield; Priscilla (Dwaine) Junck, Carroll; Rebekah (Jason) Flowers, Mayfield, Ky.; son-in-law, Marti Calhoon, Wayne; 22 grandchildren, Amanda Brown, Stephanie (Trevor) Pederson, Jacob Switzer, Zachariah Karr, Matthew (Eliana) Karr, and Danielle Karr, Jeff Heaton, Tyler (Kara) Heaton, Katherine Nastase, Jessica (Anthony) Garza, Joshua (Kristina) Calhoon, Annette (Travis) Bierbower, James R. (Alison) Bierbower, Samantha (Ezra) Brodersen, Brooklyn Bierbower, Elizabeth Junck, Faith Junck, Samuel Junck, and Grace Junck, Taylor (Mason) Atwood, Ervin Flowers, and Karissa Flowers; 23 great-grandchildren with one on the way; two sisters, Darlene Jorgensen and Linda Praest; nieces and nephews.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merton Marshall, in 2019; and daughter, Louise Calhoon, in 2008.

Memorials may be directed to the Marshall family for later designation.
