HARTINGTON — Cedar County residents will need to make alternate plans for licensing services next month.
The Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles announced the Hartington driver licensing office will temporarily close Sept. 11 through Oct. 2 because of staffing shortages.
The closure comes as longtime DMV employee Norma Thies retires after 26 years of service.
Her last day will be Friday, Sept. 5. District 3 Supervisor Janie Johannes said Thies’ departure, along with other staffing challenges, left the department unable to keep offices fully staffed during September.
The closure will affect not only Hartington but also DMV offices in O’Neill, Neligh, and Center.
Johannes said the DMV already has mechanisms in place to help manage permits and licensing but cannot continue operations at all locations without adequate staff.
Residents are encouraged to visit the Nebraska DMV website, www. dmv.nebraska.gov, to check hours and days of operation for other offices.
