LAUREL - Julie Kvols will be fielding her ninth edition of the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Lady Bears volleyball team, and on paper and in person, her team should be pretty formidable in 2025.
Kvols returns a couple of seniors, six juniors and a sophomore to try to improve on last season’s record of 28-5 which saw them drop a Class C1 district final to Battle Creek, falling just short of a trip to Lincoln.
Tyler Recob and Lainey Folkers are the returning seniors, Recob earned her second letter last season and Folkers got her first last year as a junior.
The juniors, along with Folkers and Recob, were instrumental in last season’s success and the Lady Bears have moved back to Class C2 for the 2025 campaign.
Rena Rasmussen returns after a sophomore season when she earned Elite 8 honors from the Norfolk Daily News after recording 435 kills during the season along with classmate Carlie Kvols, the daughter of the coach.
Kvols was named Elite 8 honorable mention and tipped up 910 set assists in 2024.
Kaida Eriksen, another junior, who recorded 324 digs returns as does Hattie McCorkindale, who roamed the middle for the Lady Bears last season.
Justice Olson returns to help in the back row and Boston Brown, a transfer from Wakefield where she played for two seasons, will most likely find the court this fall.
Taelynn Settje is the returning sophomore who will find the court after earning a letter during her first varsity season for the Lady Bears.
Julie Kvols looks for Elkhorn Valley, West Holt and Summerland to join the Lady Bears at the top of the Greater Northeast Activities Conference and is expecting Norfolk Catholic, Guardian Angels Central Catholic, Wisner-Pilger, Stanton, Elkhorn Valley and Crofton to be teams to beat, along with her Lady Bears in Class C2.
The LCC schedule will prepare the Lady Bears to take the next step this season.
A triangular with West Holt and Battle Creek open the season on Aug. 28.
GNAC matches Elkhorn Valley, Neligh-Oakdale, Plainview and Lutheran High Northeast highlight September and the Lady Bears close the month with a triangular with Wakefield and Wynot and a home date with Pierce on Sept. 30.
October will find LCC at Hartington-Newcastle on Oct. 7, a home triangular with Howells-Dodge and Humphrey/ Lindsay Holy Family on Oct. 9 and a trip north to take on Cedar Catholic on Oct. 14.
The Lady Bears end the regular season with a home match against Elgin Public/Pope John on Oct. 16 with the GNAC Tournament set for Oct. 18 through Oct. 24.
The Class C2 Sub-Districts and District Finals will be determined at the end of the regular season.
