RANDOLPH — First Lt. Harold E. Wimmer was awarded the Silver Star medal on May 30 for gallantry in connection with military operations against the enemy in Germany, according to word reaching his wife, Mrs. Juna Wimmer, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wimmer, all of Randolph.
The Randolph man, who is with the 315th Engineers Battalion of the 90th Infantry Division, received the medal at special ceremonies on Memorial Day following Memorial Day services at Weiden, Germany where he was then stationed.
The division commander made the presentation.
The citation stated that the gallant action of this officer was in accordance with highest military tradition.
No further details of Lt. Wimmer’s battle exploits which led to the awarding of this high decoration have been received here.
The Silver Star is the third highest decoration awarded by the United States government and is outranked only by the Congressional Medal of Honor, Navy Cross and Distinguished Service Cross.
Lt. Wimmer is the fourth Randolph man to be decorated with this medal, others are T/ Sgt. Robert B. Otterpohl, First Lt. Richard A. Wintz and First Sgt. Walter N. Andersen.
Lt. Wimmer also holds the Bronze Star. In service almost three years, he has been overseas since March, 1944.

RANDOLPH —Mrs. Helen Dwyer of Randolph accepted the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal which were awarded posthumously to her late husband, Major William P. Dwyer, also of Randolph, at an informal ceremony at the Sioux City Air Base on Aug. 8.
The presentation was made by the base commander, Lt. Col William R. Calhoun, a former classmate of Major Dwyer’s.
Mrs. Helen Dwyer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Dendinger of Randolph, is at present living at the home of her husband’s father, Jack Dwyer, also of Randolph.
