Lady Cardinals return four seniors, eight letter winners

RANDOLPH — Randolph High School volleyball coach Lyndsee English returns four seniors, five starters and eight letter winners from last season’s Lady Cardinal volleyball team that finished 3-25.

“We hope our leadership and experience will help lead to a successful season. We don’t have much height overall, though,” English said.

The four seniors include Mabel Ngebeh, Alexis Backhaus, Brooke Meier and Addyson Wattier, with Meier being listed as the tallest at 5-foot-8-inches.

Six juniors will fit into the mix; Lilly Kuchta, Jenna Guenther, Sydney Robinson, Delayne Thelen, Alaina Schultz and Ella Graf, with Schultz listed at 5-9 and all saw the court for English and the Lady Redbirds last year.

Abbey Backer, Peyton Thelen, Kynlee Winkelbauer and Bria Reimers return for their sophomore campaigns.

The coach lists Homer, Wynot, Bloomfield, Tri County Northeast and Creighton as some of the top teams in the Lewis & Clark Conference.

Randolph will have a soft opening with a jamboree game with Tri County Northeast on Aug. 25 in Allen before a season-opening quadrangular at Hartington-Newcastle on Aug. 30.

The first home match is set for Sept. 2 when Stuart comes to town then a trip back to Hartington to take on the Lady Wildcats on Sept. 8.

Sept. 9 will find the Lady Cards back at home in a conference match with Winnebago then a triangular in Osmond with the Lady Tigers and Tri County on Sept. 11.

Randolph will host its own triangular on Sept. 15, another home date, this one with Wausa, is scheduled for Sept. 18.

A trip to Walthill to take on the Lady Blujays is set for Sept. 23 and a trip to O’Neill to take on St. Mary’s will take place on Sept. 25.

The Lady Cardinals will finish September with a home match with Creighton on Sept. 30 then open October at the Creighton triangular with the Lady Bulldogs and Neligh-Oakdale on Oct. 7.

Randolph will travel to Bloomfield on Oct. 9, a quadrangular in Plainview will take place on Oct. 11 and a triangular in Wynot is set for Oct. 14.

The Lady Cards will finish the regular season in a triangular at Boyd County.

The Lewis & Clark Conference Tournament is scheduled for Oct. 18 through Oct. 21 and the D2-3 Sub-District will be competed Oct. 27 and 28.

Osmond, Wausa, Winside and Wynot will join Randolph in D2-3.
