2000: Dave Zimmer begins duties as new HNS Principal

HARTINGTON — Despite rain on the opening two days, the Cedar County Centennial Fair drew a crowd of about 7,500 this year. The figure is about he same as last year’s fair, according to Gate Chairman, Ritch Miller. “We’re pleased with the attendance considering the rain and the cancellations it caused,” he said.

HARTINGTON — Mardell Jones of Fordyce was named County Grand Champion Style Revue winner at the 4-H Public Style Revue held Tuesday, August 16, at the fairgrounds in Hartington.

HARTINGTON — A two-day seminar in Hartington last Friday and Saturday drew people from across the Midwest.

Ennis Demmel, coordinator of the energy Project, said 75 people attended on both days of the seminar. Meetings during the morning were at the VFW Club room.

HARTINGTON— Students at West Catholic will see a few changes when they head to school. A new set of stairs was installed from the street to the northwest corner door at Holy Trinity. A new fountain and Rock garden rests in front of West Catholic. The new addition is a tribute to former student Marie Schulte, who died in a car accident last year.

HARTINGTON—Hartington Public School students will see a familiar face in a very unfamiliar role when school starts. Dave Zimmer is Hartington Public School’s principal. He replaced Myron Riddle in July, after Riddle retired.

ST. JAMES—Violet Pinkelman will be honored with an award when the Cedar County Ag Society gets together for its annual banquet this fall.

HARTINGTON — Cedar County has seen a big increase in COVID-19 cases this week.

Seven new cases were reported in Cedar County Monday, bringing the total for the county to 32.

At the start of August, Cedar County had 21 confirmed cases of the coronavirus.

Despite the new cases here, Cedar County still has fewer cases than any other county in the four-county Northeast Nebraska Public Health Dept. District.
