WYNOT — First-year head volleyball coach, Tristan Wieseler expects his Wynot team to be, well, Wynot by the end of the season.
Wieseler, despite being new to the head seat on the bench, knows a lot about the Lady Blue Devil program and how it was developed over the years.
Pardon the pun, but why not, he’s been on the bench and around the program for nearly his entire life taking over for last year’s head coach Sidney Messersmith who took over for Wieseler’s mother, Tammy, who basically erected the program from the ground up some 20 years ago, or so.
And Wieseler inherits a program with a pretty full cupboard.
The top returner for the Lady Blue Devils is Kenna Oligmueller who compiled 343 kills last season as a junior, was named to the Lewis & Clark All-Conference Team and was listed in the Class D Elite 8 by the Norfolk Daily News.
Roaming the back row will be libero, Jaylin Geisen, who registered 404 digs and 44 ace serves during her all-conference junior season.
Classmate Jordan Foxhoven also hammered 170 winners and served up 37 aces in 2024 to lead Wynot to the Class D2 State Tournament last season and ended the season with a 20-10 record.
“We are bringing back experience with a majority of our seniors and are looking forward to some of our younger players taking on new roles at the varsity level,” Wieseler said. “We are looking to make a deep run at the conference tournament and on to state like last year.”
Haley Wieseler and Addison Sharpe return for their final seasons as Lady Blue Devils and will be joined by four juniors, a sophomore and five freshmen to make up this season’s roster.
Tiara Sudbeck, Claire Haberman, Taylor Pinkelman and Kiera Heimes are the juniors; Aven Hanson is the sophomore and Mya Pinkelman, Vivian Stencel, Kierstan Hans, Mackenzie Foxhoven and Jacy Nelson are the freshmen.
Wynot opens the season with a trip to Osmond on Aug. 28 then hosts Boyd County on Sept. 2.
September will be highlighted by a triangular in Crofton with the Lady Warriors and Bloomfield on Sept. 4, a round-robin tournament at Howells-Dodge on Sept. 13, a match with highly regarded Laurel-Concord-Coleridge and Wakefield in a triangular in Wynot on Sept. 25.
October will bring Homer to Wynot on Oct. 2 and a tournament at Clarkson/Leigh on Oct. 4.
A triangular with Cedar Catholic and Ponca is slated for Oct. 9 in Hartington and the Lewis & Clark Conference Tournament gets underway on Oct. 18 and runs through Oct. 21.
The Lady Blue Devils will play in the D2-3 Sub-District Tournament on Oct. 27 and Oct. 28 along with Osmond, Randolph, Wausa and Winside.
