HARTINGTON — Best of Show went to Marilyn Puppe, her quilt is now eligible to compete at the 2025 Nebraska State Fair with other Best of County entrants. Other winners in the quilt show were as follows: Quilts measuring over 75 inches; Grand Champion, Marilyn Puppe, Reserve Champion, Clara Brummels. Quilts measuring 45 inches to 75 inches; Grand Champion, Marilyn Puppe and Reserve Champion, Marilyn Puppe. Quilts measuring under 45 inches; Grand Champion, Betty Eickhoff, Reserve Champion, Jarinda Sudbeck.
For the first time in many years, there was a quilt entered in the Junior Quilters Class. Stella Graham won Grand Champion for her machine pieced quilt.
The Cedar County Piecemakers Quilt Club sponsors a viewers’ choice award as well. Throughout the fair, visitors are asked to vote for their favorite quilt. This year’s winner was Dianne Pedersen with her flag wall hanging-sized quilt.
The Piecemakers also sponsor a quilt challenge at the fair each year. A challenge is selected at a meeting and sold ($2) throug hout the year, with participants bringing their creation to the fair to be judged on how well they followed the challenge.
The 2025 challenge was “Mad Magazine.” Participants were to create a wall hanging or small lap q uilt using a word, color or pic ture depicted on a page out of a magazine they drew from a seal ed envelope. Challenge winners were first place, Vicki Gullickson, and second place, Jarinda Sudbeck.
The challenge for the 2026 fair is “Flags of the World. ” Participants can select an envelope containing a flag from countries o f the world and create a small wall hanging or table runner based on the colors of the country’s flag. If anyone is interested in joining in on the challenge you may contact one of the members of the Ceda r County Piecemakers Quilt Club.
A raffle was conducted by the Piecemakers club. A quilt with a frog panel and added blocks was made by club members to honor the late Carole Nordby, a past volunteer and advocate for the Cedar County Fair. Winner of the quilt was Roxanne L ewis.
Other items made from the late Jeaneen Kuehn fabrics were raffled off as well, those winners included, Dianna Huss, LeeAnn Lich, Macy Lammers, Maya Lammers, Azalea Bretschneider, Karen Flamig, Christie Burbach, JoAnn Hoffart and Dalia Lopez.
The Cedar County Piecemakers Quilt Club meets at the Harting ton Senior Center the second Monday of the month at 7 p.m. , if anyone is interested in joining us.
