WSC launches a new ‘Point of Admission’ scholarship process

WAYNE – To help new students and their parents with financial clarity when choosing a college, Wayne State College is implementing “point-ofadmission” scholarships, which will award a qualification-based scholarship to new first-year students when they are accepted to Wayne State.

The new process began Aug. 1.

The new process is designed to expedite awarding scholar- ships and help reduce financial uncertainty, while making higher education more attainable for students and families.

Other more competitive scholarships still remain available for new and returning students.

“We recognize students and families are attempting to make a big decision with a significant amount of information com- ing at them in many dierent channels," said Kevin Halle, vice president for enrollment management at Wayne State. “Awarding scholarships at the point of admission simply means students and their families will have the information they need sooner, and we hope, paired with a real sense of opportunity as well.”

With the new process, families will receive a more clear understanding of the cost of college early enough to support their planning and decisionmaking.

“Many students, especially first-generation and income- eligible families, may or may not be aware of available options,” said Halle. "This change helps ensure no one misses opportunities due to late or unclear deadlines.”

Figures show that after the Spring 2025 semester, 46% of Wayne State students graduated with no student-loan debt.

All point-of-admission schol- arship oers are renewable, and all incoming first-year students who apply for admission will receive a scholarship oer.
