Auditions Announced for Aesop’s Greatest Hits at The Little Red Hen Theatre

WAKEFIELD, NE August 5, 2025 — The Little Red Hen Theatre is thrilled to announce open auditions for its upcoming fall production of Aesop’s Greatest Hits, a fast-paced and laugh-filled theatrical experience written especially for young audiences. Auditions will take place on Thursday, August 14 and Friday, August 15 from 6:30 – 8:00 PM at the theatre.

This lively and interactive 60–70-minute show was created by Jason Cannon and features theatrical retellings of several of Aesop’s most famous fables, including The Boy Who Cried Wolf, The Tortoise and the Hare, Androcles and the Lion, and more. Performed by a small cast of versatile “Fableers,” the show brings timeless wisdom and belly laughs to audiences of all ages.

Guest director Melissa Derechailo will helm this year’s production.

The theatre is seeking a minimum of three actors, ages 16 and older, to bring these fables to life. While the script is designed for three performers, The Little Red Hen Theatre is open to expanding the cast depending on interest. Auditions will be run as a collaborative workshop, including warm-ups, games, acting exercises, and readings from the script. Performers should be prepared to create bold characters, embrace physical storytelling, and engage directly with a live audience—including a room full of enthusiastic kids!

This production marks the theatre’s second year offering a mainstage show specifically designed for young children and families. Last year’s inaugural effort brought daytime performances of RED RIDING HOOD to local school groups, with students from Wakefield, Laurel, Pender, and Wayne bussed to the theatre for an interactive, laughterfilled experience. “The response from students, teachers, and our audiences was overwhelmingly positive,” said Managing Director T. Adam Goos. “We knew immediately we wanted to bring this kind of theatre experience to the community again—one that’s fun, fast, and educational.”

In addition to actors, The Little Red Hen Theatre is also seeking volunteers to help make the show a success, including: Stage Manager/Assistant Director, Sound Designer/Operator, Lighting Design/Operator, Scenery & Prop Builders, Backstage Crew, and Front of House Volunteers (ushers, box office, concessions).

Rehearsals are currently scheduled for weekday evenings, with flexibility based on cast availability.

At The Little Red Hen Theatre, we believe in creating a fun, inclusive, and collaborative environment where people of all experience levels can grow as artists.
