1990: Laurel Falcon baseball team earns MidSeason title

July 31, 1980

LAUREL- Jim and Rob Dalton, sons of Mick and Mary Dalton were at Cedar View Country Club Saturday for the Invitational Tournament when a portrait of Mick was hung in the Clubhouse. The inscription reads, “Mick Dalton” He had a dream that became Cedar View.”

LAUREL- Rick Smith and his partner, Wes Janssen of Syracuse, won the championship of the third annual Cedar View Invitational Golf Tournament.

LAUREL- The Laurel Midget baseball team won the District Tournament held at Emerson. Phil Martin tossed a no-hitter against Emerson in the championship game. Ron Hirschman hit a second inning homer to right center to start the team to the win.

Aug. 8, 1990

LAUREL — The Laurel Falcons baseball team was named Mid-Season champions recently in the Cedar County League. Team members include: Jim Casey, Jeff Pasold, Joe Fultcher, Marty Jonas, Larry Ballinger, Blair Kalin, Daren Martinson, John Wolfgram, Tim Bloom, Brian Haisch, Doug Manz, Tom Luxford, Brent Haisch and Tim Granquist.

LAUREL — Angela Freeman was one of 16 girls to have been selected to represent Prairie Hills Girl Scout Council at “Our Cabana,” in Cuernavaca, Mexico, one of our four World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts International Centers. Freeman is a Cadette Girl Scout in Laurel’s Cadette Troop 340. She has spent this summer as a Camp Assistant at Camp Crossed Arrows, Prairie Hills Girl Scout Camp by Nickerson. She is the daughter of Dwayne and Marietta Freeman of Laurel.

DIXON — The neighboring town of Dixon will kick off its centennial celebration Saturday, August 11.

LAUREL — Downtown Laurel played host to an unusually large vehicle last Thursday morning as a crane was brought in to top some trees at the Harvey Rastede home behind Gade’s Food Center. Several Laurel residents took time out of their busy morning to watch the event.

COLERIDGE — The Coleridge Corral Bar Softball Team placed second in the Hartington slow-pitch tournament.

Playing for the Corral this year were Brian Nordby, Fred Kalin, Tom Hirschman manager, Brad Stapelman, Steve Nordby, Bob Kalin, Jim Leapley, John Leapley, Dan Greiner, Jeff Wolfe, Ron Wilcox coach, Bill Mainquist and Butch Sperry. Buffords of Hartington won the tournament.

Coleridge played two games in final Tri-County League action last week and defeated Orchard 7-3 here on Wednesday but lost to O’Neill 5-2 on Thursday.

A seventh inning blitz by Coleridge credited four runs to their tally putting them ahead 7-1. Orchard added two in the eighth. Floyd McCart hurled the distance for Coleridge.
