Becker, Klug will be first to use new Skylon Ballroom

HARTINGTON — A local couple is set to mark two new beginnings this month.

When Carsen Becker and Haley Klug exchange vows on August 9, they won’t just be starting a new chapter in their lives; they’ll be making local history. Their reception will be the first held in Hartington’s newly relocated and renovated Skylon ballroom.

The long-standing community landmark has been brought back to life by manager Corey Kramer, who is overseeing final touches this week.

The reopening will host the wedding party, family and friends for what is sure to be an electric evening.

“It’s exciting to be the first couple to host a reception here,” said the mother of the groom, Angie Becker.

She also shared how they plan to incorporate another local business in the celebration.

“(We will) get to decorate the space with flowers and rentals from our local Hartington floral shop, Floral Designs, where the bride and mother of the groom also happen to work,” said Becker. “Owner, Katelyn Lammers, has been incredibly helpful with the planning. Katelyn’s mom, LouAnn Dendinger, and Aunt Jill Belt are also no strangers to decorating for events and are key helpers in our setup and design.” The Skylon has hosted many receptions, but with the new additions of front lounge space and a bar area, Becker said the family loves it even more.

“It’s a beautiful space for so many events to come,” said Becker. “Aaron Steffen Carpentry did a beautiful job on the new bar. The bride’s dad, Myron Klug, had the pressure of getting the drywall done in the newly remodeled Skylon in time for his daughter’s wedding.”

Becker said their expectations were exceeded when first considering the space.

“Our first impression was ‘wow’, very pretty and spacious,” said Becker. “We love the beauty and size of the space right here in our hometown and wanted to support a very important asset to Hartington.”

As the Skylon reopens for reservations, many community members hope the iconic ballroom will once again draw big crowds to Hartington.

“It’s such a blessing to have an event space of this size in Hartington,” said Becker. “We are able to keep our money in our own local economy rather than take it elsewhere.”

With the wedding date fast approaching, Becker said she wanted to give thanks to everyone who has made the opening, wedding and reception possible.

“We are very excited to have Carsen and Haley’s reception here,” said Becker. “They are a young couple who are excited to live in this great, growing community.”

Carsen is the son of Angie and Darren Becker, and Haley is the daughter of Heather and Myron Klug.

August 9 will debut a new life for the happy couple and a new life for the Skylon. Both will celebrate hometown and family pride, love and support.
