HARTINGTON — Truck-driver John Jennings was sentenced to serve three years in the Nebraska State Penal Complex in Lincoln on Thursday, July 31. Jennings, a 23-year-old Salt Lake City truck driver, pled guilty to felony motor vehicle homicide in District Court here on June 18. The charge was in connection with the Dec. 24 traffic deaths of John Lauer and a passenger in his car, Keith Bergman, both of Hartington.

HARTINGTON —The administration of Hartington Public Schools announced that school will start Monday, August 25. School will convene at 8:20 a.m. and dismissal will be at 12:20. School lunch will not be provided on Monday.

HARTINGTON — Eighty-two 19 and 20 year olds registered for the draft during the past two weeks at the Hartington Post Office, according to Postmaster Fredric Stevens. At Wynot, 10 men registered, according to Postmaster Viola Peters. Frank J. Dietsch of Fordyce said 10 men registered there and at St. Helena, Postmaster Fran Jones said 14 men registered.

HARTINGTON —City officials this week said they have completed a census of Hartington and are checking the figures.
The new count was authorized by the City Council to check preliminary 1980 Census figures which showed a drop in Hartington’s population.
City Attorney Paul Robinson said the figures will be checked by the Council to insure accuracy before they are made public.
