1955: Businesses move from downtown to new highway locations

July 28, 1955

HARTINGTON — Business places in Hartington, as in many other communities, have been moving from the downtown districts to new locations on highways leading into the cities.

Three local businesses have recently moved to new locations in a less congested part of the city on Highway 15 in south Hartington.

They are Schulte Buick and Implement, Mauch Transfer and Lamprecht Implement.

The Schulte Buick and Implement building is constructed of cement blocks with an arched roof and is 40x70 feet. There are two 5x10-foot show windows in the front.

The display room is 30x40 feet with a recessed lighting arrangement. The shop is 40x40 with service doors and a cement floor. The building is insulated and heated with two gas heaters in the winter.

Case and Buick equipment is on display in the show room. There is a complete service and parts department for all Case and Buick equipment, Francis Schulte said.
