Experience two unique regenerative agriculture bus tours

HARTINGTON — The Bow Creek Watershed Project and the Bazile Groundwater Management Area are co-hosting two regenerative agriculture bus tours for producers, conservationists, and anyone interested in learning about regenerative agriculture practices. Please, join us for one or both tours.

The first bus tour will travel from northeast Nebraska to Green Cover’s Aug. 12th field day, which will offer valuable information on growing grasses for livestock forage, incorporating cover crops into your garden or homestead, demonstrations of farm equipment, hands-on in-field soil testing, and tours of cover crop plots. Lunch will be provided at the field day. Following the field day, participants will visit Kipp Hinrich’s farm, where a transition is underway from irrigated row-crop farming to a forage-based grazing operation. The bus will depart from Norfolk, NE, on August 12th at 5:00 a.m., with a stop in Neligh at 5:40 a.m. to pick up additional riders. A minimum number of riders is required for the coach rental; if this is not met, smaller vehicles will be used.

The second tour will take place from August 25th to 27th and features visits to SDSU Dakota Lakes, Menoken Farm, and Blue Dasher Farm as part of the North Dakota and South Dakota Research, Demonstration, and Working Farms Tour. The itinerary covers crop rotations and small grains at Dakota Lakes, the use of livestock at Menoken Farm to support nutrient cycles and profitability, and farm management’s impact on biodiversity at Blue Dasher Farm. Additional stops include 3C Composting and Mizera Farm. The cost is $250, covering transportation, farm visits, hotel accommodations, and breakfasts and lunches. Dinners and snacks are not included.
