WANTED: Volunteer to help report local rainfall activitiy

HARTINGTON — NeRAIN is a network of volunteers who report rainfall from across the state of Nebraska.

Help make an impact: Accurate data on rain, snow, and hail are important for many Nebraska residents. Local volunteers contribute precipitation and storm event data not available from other sources.

NeRAIN volunteers receive a high-quality backyard rain gauge and submit precipitation reports through the NeRAIN website. The Lewis and Clark Natural Resources District (LCNRD) provides the rain gauge and training. Volunteers agree to provide daily precipitation reports online to the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources. Climate analysts process this data and create detailed maps showing rainfall distribution.

NeRAIN data supplements information from the National Weather Service and improves daily decision-making information for agriculture, industry, utility providers, insurance companies, resource managers, and educators. NeRAIN information is updated daily and available for public access at https://nednr.nebraska.gov/NeRain/.

If you are interested in volunteering to collect and report rainfall information to NeRAIN, contact LCNRD at 402-254-6758 or [email protected].
