HARTINGTON- Rain Tuesday and Wednesday morning delayed work on the paving and water main projects here, so that work will not be completed by Saturday night as had been planned earlier. Mayor Harold Martindale told The News after a talk with the contractor, that work would be completed early next week providing the weather permits.

The Mayor also said that the last of the material for the water main project would arrive Thursday (today) and that the water main project would also be completed early next week.

The first project, which was the paving of Highway 84 through Hartington has been completed and is open to traffic. The two blocks from the highway north to the Carhart-Shumway Lumber Company yard are also open to traffic although some work remains to be completed on the terraces.

As of Thursday only the center strip in the block east of the bank, several intersections and driveways remained to be done. There are also some walks to replace and other small details that remain.

The first concrete was poured on Highway 84 on May 22. The entire project of 22 blocks will have required approximately 10 weeks.
