HARTINGTON — From a Minecraft tribute to a sister gymnastic routine, Cedar County residents showed off their skills last week.
The annual talent competition held on the opening night of the Cedar County Fair was full of outgoing and amazing talent of all ages.
The tiny tot division was ages 4-8 and featured singing, dancing and gymnastic performances. A rendition of the Minecraft movie’s “Steve’s Lava Chicken” song was performed by 7-year-old Freya Flemming. Her piano and singing perfonuance won third place.
Brooklyn Heimes, 7, was awarded second place for her tap dance to the song “Fishing in the Dark,” and 6-year-old Kella Koch won the overall for her performance of “Colors of the Wind” from Disney’s “Pocahontas.”
In the junior division, there were seven competing acts, but Bailey Mlady and Emma Sonnichsen took home first place for their duet performance of “This is Me” from “The Greatest Showman.”
The second-place winner, Paisley Collier, also sang, but was accompanied by a pianist and performed “Oceans” by Hillsong United.
The junior’s third place went to Kylie Ross for her dark dance titled “Hide and Seek,” which was full of dance technique and tricks.
The senior division only had two entries, but both were unique. Recent Hartington-Newcastle graduate Ryell Haug sang Dolly Parton’s “9-5” and received second place.
Sister duo Maleah and Ruth Heimes did a gymnastics and dance routine titled “Dynamite,” which included partner tricks and flips to earn top honors.
The adult division featured four singers, and Abby Anderson performed an original song titled “Who You Truly Are” and took home first place.
A passionate performance of “Broken Halos” sung by Logan Rohan won second place, and Aaralynn Collier got third for her performance of “Rescue.”
