Volunteers are the difference between success and failure

Editorial

Area residents can be proud of two recent events that drew thousands of people to Hartington and left visitors with a positive impression of our small-town community.

Hartington American Legion Post 4 recently hosted the Area 1 postseason baseball tournament, a five-day event that brought people in from across a four-county area.

The Cedar County Fair also wrapped up its annual run. The event seems to grow each year as the Cedar County Fair Board works not only to attract top-tier entertainment, but also to continually improve the fairgrounds. Major improvements this year included a new handicap- accessible grandstand for concerts and new video screens for the rodeo.

None of this would be possible without one key ingredient — hard-working volunteers.

It took dozens of volunteers to organize and host the five-day American Legion tournament at Felber Park.

Even more dedicated individuals — some of whom worked nearly a full year in preparation — helped bring together another successful Cedar County Fair.

Without volunteers like these, events of this scale simply couldn’t happen.

All of the volunteers who so willingly donate their time and energy to these events deserve to be commended.

Without them, Hartington wouldn’t be the thriving, close-knit community it is today.

Thank You!
