WYNOT - The Wynot Expos will be hosting a district for South Dakota Class B Amateur Baseball at Terry Foxhoven Field July 24 through August 2.
Crofton and Lesterville will open the seven-team, double elimination tournament with a single game on July 24 with first pitch set for 7:30 p.m.
Wynot will play the Menno Mad Frogs on July 25 at 8 p.m. Freeman takes on Irene in a 6 p.m. game on the same evening.
Tabor is the top seed in the tournament and will play the winner of the Crofton versus Lesterville game on July 29.
"It takes a lot of volunteers to put on a tournament like this," said Wynot manager, Lee Heimes. "If we didn't have all of the local support, we couldn't do this."
Heimes and company made improvements to the field a few years back to be able to host a district tournament.
“We put in a grand stand, put up some netting, improved our bathrooms and concession area and put in a grass infield," Heimes said of the improvements. "Ryan Heimes takes care of the infield and has done a great job. It looks great." He was also quick to point out the help of dozens of other people for the improvements and the sta needed to cover all of the aspects of the upcoming tournament.
"We are very fortunate to get all of the support we get from everyone in Wynot and the surrounding area," Heimes said. “It really does take a village to get this done."
