MENNO, S.D. — The Wynot Ex- pos outlasted the Menno Mad Frogs July 17, 6-2, in the Expos final tune up before hosting a South Dakota Amateur Baseball District beginning July 24 at Terry Foxhoven Field in Wynot.
Both teams were scoreless heading into the sixth inning an-d both teams plated a run in that sixth frame.
The Expos went on to score two runs in the seventh and three in the ninth to post the 6-2 final.
Nolan Ostrand opened the Wynot half of the ninth with a walk with the Expos clinging to a 3-2 lead.
Landon Wieseler bunted Ostrand over to second base with a sacri- fice before back-to-back singles by Jackson Sudbeck and Jalen Wieseler
scored Ostrand and left runners on first and second.
Sudbeck and Wieseler stole third and second respectively on the same pitch, then the Mad Frogs decided to intentionally walk Lee Heimes.
Nate Wieseler worked a walk to chase Sudbeck home and move everyone else up a base.
Peyton Wieseler rifled a line drive into right field to score Jalen Wieseler and reload the bases, but the final score was set as the Expos grounded into a double play.
Sudbeck, who picked up the win on the mound, got a ground out and strikeout to open Menno’s last at bat, then, after hitting a batter, coerced a fielder's choice ground ball to Jalen Wieseler, who started the game on
the bump and moved to shortstop to retire the side and end the game.
Jalen Wieseler was 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and a couple of singles, scored twice and drove in two runs for the night.
Heimes and David Schenk each had a pair of hits in the game.
Wynot and Menno will play again in the opening round of the District Tournament July 25 at 8 p.m. in Wynot.
