HARTINGTON — A total of $8,569.94 is being distributed to the school districts of Cedar County from the semi-annual state apportionment for July, J. Mike McCoy, county superintendent of schools, has announced.
The amount represents the distribution of approximately $1.50 per pupil.
McCoy said that in the future the state apportionment would be made only once a year, in January, instead of semi-annually as in the past. The change to the once-a-year system was made at the past session of the state legislature.
Hartington, with the largest school enrollment in the county, received $642 from the apportionment. Randolph received $387.39; Laurel, $378.35, and Coleridge, $307.54.
Other town districts in the county received the following amounts: St. Helena, $63.47; Obert, $98.13; Fordyce, $188.52; Magnet, $98.13; Belden, $156.88, and Wynot, $162.91.
The apportionment by rural districts was as follows: District 1, $63.47; 3, $66.49; 4, $93.61; 5, $64.98; 6, $107.07; 7, $93.37; 9, $147.84; District 10, $69.50; 11, $78.54; 12, $63.47; 13, $78.54; 14, $86.07; 16, $72.51; 17, $67.99; 18, $52.93; 19, $93.61.

RANDOLPH — More people are turning to air conditioners in order to keep cool during the hot summer months. In order to efficiently serve the needs of its customers who are purchasing air conditioning units, Consumers Public Power District requests that the purchase of these units be reported to its local office

RANDOLPH — Ed Paulson, who has been employed the past two years by the S. R. Jonas well drilling concern, has been named by the city council as night watchman and night marshal.
Mr. Paulson’s duties also include being caretaker of the auditorium lawn and assisting as janitor at the auditorium.
He began his new work two weeks ago.

RANDOLPH — Dr. G. E. Peters, G. I. Reed and S. D. Reed competed in the 27-hole medal play golf tournament at the Hartington Golf club course on Sunday and all three were place winners in the meet.
Dr. Peters and G. I. Reed were entered in the first flight, Mr. Reed winning third place and Dr. Peters fourth. S. D. Reed won second in the second flight.
The club entertained the visiting golfers at a Dutch lunch supper in the evening.

RANDOLPH — Claris Lee, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. W. I. Lambing, with whom he makes his home, enlisted in the Naval Reserve at Norfolk one week ago and on Tuesday was accepted for service at Omaha after passing his physical examination there.
He expects to be sworn in within the near future.
Claris graduated this spring from Randolph high school. Wallace Thaden accompanied him to Omaha.

RANDOLPH - Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Schmidt, who were married in 1881, and have spent 47 years of their married life on a farm south of Randolph, marked sixty-four years of marriage Tuesday, July 24, and began their sixty-fifth year together amidst congratulations of their children and relatives and friends who called at the Schmidt home that day.
The Schmidts are Randolph’s sweetheart couple, the longest married couple in the community. Mr. Schmidt is 92, Mrs. Schmidt is 85 and both are in fairly good health.
Both Mr. Schmidt and his wife, the former Marie Carstens, were born in Germany and both came to this country when in their teens, but they did not meet until they were residents of Chicago, Ill. It was in Chicago that they were married and they lived in Cuming county, Nebraska, before coming to the farm south of Randolph in 1898.

RANDOLPH — Dallas V. Phillips, proprietor of the Phillips Produce, has purchased the three lots and building on the former Vinckel implement shop location, and plans to erect a building there to house his produce and feed business.
The lots and building are located east of the Secord Mortuary.
Mr. Phillips plans to raze the present building and build a new structure which will house the Phillips Produce and feed business.
Work of razing the building was begun this week and will proceed as rapidly as workers and material can be obtained.
The building now occupied by the Phillips business was recently sold to Tony Backer who will move his repair shop to the new location soon.
