Food, fluff, and foam all add up to fun

RANDOLPH — Kids got squeaky clean at the Lied Public Library’s Family Fun Night at the Randolph City Park.

The evening event celebrated the conclusion of the summer reading program and welcomed families during the Randolph Community Fair.

Library Director Peggy Leiting said the final event typically takes place indoors and includes a raffle for prizes, a petting zoo and magicians. However, this year they wanted to try something new.

“This year was something different — the foam party,” Leiting said. “I had seen it at other events, and it looked fun.”

Foamaha Parties, based in Omaha, provided the machines and services for the evening. Drawing interest with the unusual attraction, Leiting said the event had a wonderful turnout.

“It’s hard to tell when you’re outside, but I think we served close to 350 people in the park,” she said.

Seeing the park full of smiling faces was a heartwarming show of the Randolph community’s support.

“It’s just so wonderful to see so many people gather, have a good time and enjoy each other,” Leiting said. “It made you feel good to be from Randolph all weekend long.”

Before the foam party, attendees were served walking tacos by library staff, summer reading volunteers and local FFA members.

“We have so many Friends of the Library group members who help with these events,” Leiting said. “We have great volunteers that I truly appreciate.”

Also in attendance were a variety of fluffy, playful petting zoo animals to feed, pet and admire. When kids had exhausted all the entertainment, the playground buzzed with games and activity.

By the time the foam party began, kids got about 20 minutes of soapy dance time before a storm rolled in — but the weather didn’t dampen the joy of the evening. Overall, the night was deemed a success by Leiting.

“Except for the thunderstorm, I think it went great,” she said. “I think it’s something we’re looking into doing next year.”

Though Leiting said she dreads planning outdoor events because of unpredictable weather, the positive feedback made all the difference.
