HARTINGTON — The Hartington City Council Monday approved a liquor license for the new owners of Hartington’s Cobblestone Inn and Suites.
According to paperwork filed with the Nebraska Secretary of State’s office, the local hotel was sold in June by the Hartington Hotel Group LLC to Hiralal LLC.
The Hiralal LLC company was registered in Nebraska in February by Hitesh Bhakta, a real estate lawyer in Los Angeles whose family owns 11 hotels.
Also Monday, the Council discussed the implementation of a new city ordinance which fines local residents who house chickens and other fowl on their property inside the city limits.
At least one local resident is in violation of the city statute and that person may soon face legal prosecution and financial penalties, Council members said.
The Council also approved two building permits and a sign permit.
The permits were for: Clay and Brooke Kleinschmit – garage. Jim and Marci Dooley – deck replacement.
Lisa Dendinger — sign permit for Ruby’s Red Door.
The Council also gave its approval for a Special Designated Liquor License for the Lewis and Clark Pulley Museum and Catering for the August Hartington Dayz celebration in downtown Hartington.
The Council also decided to change the date of their surplus property auction to Oct. 1. This will be an online only auction conducted by Creamer Auction Services.
Council members reviewed, but took no action on reports from the Cedar County Sheriff’s Department, the Hartington Public Library and the League Association of Risk Management.
The annual renewal of the LARM contract will be coming up soon, so City Clerk Casey Schulte said she wanted to make sure Council members had plenty of time to look over the contract and any rate adjustments that may come with it. The contract, as proposed, would be for $218,418.
The Cedar County Sheriff’s Department report showed the city received 374.25 hours of law enforcement hours from the county in June. Law enforcement officers made eight traffic stops in June and wrote a ticket for one parking violation.
Law enforcement also assisted with three EMS calls, conducted one welfare check and investigated one complaint about suspicious activity.
