HARTINGTON — The Hartington Post 4 Senior Legion baseball team split a pair of games over the past week, blasting Stanton 18-3 on July 7 and dropping a 6-4 decision to Tabor on July 9, both games were at Felber Park.
It took an extra inning to decide the outcome of the Tabor game.
Unfortunately for Hartington, Tabor outscored Post 4 3-1 in the extra frame to post the win.
Tabor parlayed three singles and took advantage of a Hartington error to plate the three runs to break a 3-3 tie after the seventh inning.
Drey Puppe started the eighth inning for Post 4 on second base which is the requirement for extrainnings in American Legion ball.
Puppe stole third then after a line out, scored on a Whitmire ground ball which was mishandled by the Tabor shortstop.
Whitmire stole second and third but back-to-back outs ended the threat and the game.
Whitmire had a good night at the plate going 2-for-4 with both hits being doubles. He also scored twice.
Hunter Bensen and Puppe scored the other two runs for Hartington.
Whitmire took the loss on the mound.
In the Stanton game, the game was over before it started as Post 4 scored 15 runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back.
Whitmire hit an inside the park grand slam home run in the inning where Hartington used six walks, four hit batsmen, five hits and an error to accumulate the 15 runs.
Hartington added a couple of runs in the third and pushed the lead to 15 in the fourth to end the game by the 15-run rule.
Hartington is scheduled to head to Orchard July 17 for a date with the Tri-County Senior Legion team.
