WEST POINT - For the second time this season, the Hartington Dolphins traveled to West Point, but this meet was for the conference title.
Hartington ended up second in the team standings behind Wayne
513 to 380.
“We knew we would have to swim extremely well to beat Wayne,” said Dolphins coach, Anna Reifenrath.
“We did our best and had some great performances but we were still behind Wayne.”
Two Dolphins were High Point award winners, Eli Cattau and Hadley Dendinger.
Cattau in the 11-12 boys’ division, won the 50-meter butterfly and the
50-meter freestyle and also placed first in 100 individual medley. He also placed second in the 50 backstroke.
Dendinger, competing in the
11-12 girls’ division, won every race she was in. She won the 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke, 50 freestyle and the 100 individual medley.
Cattau and Dendinger also teamed up with Andrew Huesers and Braxton Christensen to win the 200 freestyle relay and joined Huesers and Max Climer to win the
200 medley relay. Piper Dendinger won the 9-10 girls breaststroke and Levi Steffen won the 9-10 boys backstroke.
Braxton Christensen won the
50-meter backstroke in the 9-10 boys division.
Earlier in the week, the Dolphins traveled to Blair for an invitational where they also placed second in the meet.
Blair won the invite with 443 points while Hartington was second with 330.
“It was a really great season,” said Reifenrath. “It seemed like we practiced a long time then all of the sudden the meets came up and it was all over.
“We have a great group of very hard working kids and they’re very good kids. It was a fun year and we had some success.”
