HARTINGTON — June 2025 turned out to be a soggy month in Hartington, with total precipitation reaching 5.89 inches — well above the area’s average of approximately 4.3 inches for June.
Several heavy rainfall events early and late in the month contributed to the higher-than-normal total, even as a string of hot, dry days in the middle of the month provided temporary relief.
The month’s wettest stretch came early, with over 1.2 inches falling on June 3 and additional measurable rainfall occurring on five of the first six days. After a relatively dry spell from June 7 through June 13, rain returned in scattered amounts mid-month, including .62 inches on June 17 and .95 inches on June 25. The month’s single heaviest rainfall event occurred June 26, when 1.27 inches was recorded.
Despite the rain, temperatures stayed seasonally warm. The thermometer soared into the 90s on several occasions, including back-to-back highs of 98 degrees on June 20 and 21. The average high temperature for the month was in the mid-8os, with daytime highs ranging from a mild 68 degrees on June 3 to a sweltering 98 degrees during the mid-June heat wave.
With nearly six inches of precipitation, June 2025 will likely go down as one of the wetter Junes in recent years. The mix of rain and heat created favorable conditions for crops and gardens.
