HARTINGTON - Chuck Senter claims the first sign he ever painted was on the East Coast of the United States. “It read ‘Welcome Columbus,”’ he laughs.
Senter, a native of Wayne, has been painting signs throughout the country for nearly half a century.
Last week he was in Hartington for his annual working visit.
“I don’t know how long I’ve been coming here,” Senter says. “I don’t think I’ve ever missed a year in Hartington, though. They have been pretty loyal to me here.”

HARTINGTON -Nobody likes to see corn on the ground or wheat in the street.
The nation does have adequate storage for its crops, but the storage is not always near the growing area.
Elevator operators who have CCC-owned grain in storage and who will need space for 1980 crops should request loading orders from ASCS’s Kansas City Commodity Office as soon as possible according to officials of the Agricultural Stabilizing and Conservation Service.
