Pink makes its return after a long hiatus from our household

It’s been nearly 34 years since I last bought a pink baby blanket. Come to think of it, it’s been at least that long since I’ve bought any pink clothing.

It’s not that I hate the color pink — it’s a very attractive hue, but we just don’t have a need for it. Even though it’s not a fashionable thing to say these days, I’m a traditionalist. Blue is for boys and pink is for girls.

That being said, there just haven’t been any baby girls in our lives for, well, for 34 years.

That all changed June 2 when six-pound, fourounce baby Shae joined the family. She makes her arrival into the already crowded, testosterone- filled home of our son and daughter-in-law, Kellyn and Emily Dump, and their three other children.

Shae’s arrival ended a long, long streak in our family.

She is our eighth grandchild, but our very first granddaughter. Shae is not just my only granddaughter, she’s the only girl in that generation. None of my siblings have granddaughters, either.

To be honest, I’m a little worried about what to do with her. It’s easy to entertain her siblings and cousins. I just get out a ball, or a truck and they’re good for at least an hour.

But, what do I do with a little girl? While no one has a crystal ball to peer into the future, I’m pretty sure of one thing. No one will dare to mess with her — she’s going to be well protected by her three brothers and four cousins.
