RANDOLPH - Cpl. Harry Nelson, son of Albert Nelson of Carroll and formerly of Randolph, received his honorable discharge from the army the past week at the separation center at Ft. Leavenworth, Kans.
He is now in Carroll with his wife and their small daughter, Shirley.
Entering service in February, 1942, the former army man spent 25 months in the European theater of operations.
With a reconnaissance outfit, he served first in North Africa and then was with the American forces throughout the Italian campaign until last summer when he went to France with the Seventh Army, entering that country soon after the invasion of southern France.
His plans are indefinite as yet. He received his discharge under the point system.
July 5, 1945
RANDOLPH - Two men from Randolph, Burgess Lenhoff and Elwyn Manzer, are among the registrants who will leave for Ft. Leavenworth, Kans., sometime during the month of July for physical examinations. Both have previously taken pre-induction physical examinations.
Mr. Lenhoff, who is married and has two children, is an employee at the City Grocery, and Mr. Manzer is an employee at the Council Oak store.
Among the eight Pierce county men who have passed their pre-induction physical examination and will report for active duty soon is Alvin G. Weyhrich of Randolph.

RANDOLPH - Robert G. Secord, owner of the Secord Hardware and furniture store, has bought the building now occupied by the store from Mrs. G. O. Deines, it was announced here the first of the week. Mr. Secord took possession of the property July first.
The entire ground floor of the building is occupied by the store and the floor space is one of the largest of any store in Randolph.
There is a front and side entrance to the store and also a back entrance, and a large basement. There are four apartments above the store and a portion of the Masonic lodge hall, the remainder of the hall extending into the Bermel building which adjoins the Secord building to the east. Included in the sale was the lot north of the store building which was also owned by Mrs. Deines.
The building has always been occupied by a hardware store and from 1909 to 1929 by the DeVore and Deines hardware and furniture store.
From 1929 the late G. O. Deines operated a hardware and furniture business there until his death in 1940 and Mrs. Deines continued the business until it was sold to Mr. Secord in March, 1942.
Mr. Secord plans extensive improvements and remodeling of the store in the post-war period.

RANDOLPH - Vincent Bermel, 14, suffered a fracture of his lower right arm Wednesday evening, June 27, when he fell from a horse at his farm east of Randolph.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bermel. He was attended by a local physician, is recovering satisfactorily.
