HARTINGTON — The Hartington Pony League 14-and-under baseball team won a pair of pitching duels this past week getting past Atkinson June 30 on the road, 2-0 and defeating Neligh 3-0 June 26 in a game played in Hartington.
Rylan Fischer was the “king of the hill’ in the game with Atkinson. Fischer went 5.2 innings, allowing just two hits, no runs and striking out 13 Atkinson batters. Parker Leise came on in relief and got the last out to pick up the save.
Maddox Haberer did the most damage at the plate for Hartington knocking two hits, Rylan Fischer and Cade Kleinschmit each had one hit.
Grant Klug scored both of the Hartington Ponies’ runs after working a couple of walks during the game.
Both pitching staffs threw one-hitters in the game with Neligh.
