Wynot Expos earn a split for the week

WYNOT - The Wynot Expos split in two games played over the past week dropping a 7-4 decision to the Yankton Lakers on June 30 in a game played in Wynot and taking an 8-5 win from the Freeman Blacksox in a game played in Freeman on June 29.

Devon Lammers went 3-for-4 at the plate, including a pair of doubles against the Lakers, but it wasn’t enough.

Yankton chipped away at the lead with single runs in the second, third and fourth then took the lead with a three-run seventh.

The Expos responded with a run in the bottom of the eighth, but the Lakers answered in the top of the ninth with a run and the final score was set.

Starting pitcher, Jackson Sudbeck put the Lakers down in order to open the game with a fly out and a pair of strikeouts in the Yankton half of the first.

After a strikeout to open the Wynot first, Landon Wieseler knocked a single back up the middle to get on board.

Nathan Wieseler came in to run for Landon Wieseler and was picked off by the Lakers pitcher.

Back-to-back walks by Jalen Wieseler and Lee Heimes set the table for Devon Lammers.

Lammers delivered a double in the gap in left field which plated Jalen Wieseler and left Heimes on third Jackson Sudbeck worked a walk to load the bases.

Peyton Wieseler singled back up the middle which plated Heimes and Lammers and the teams went to the second frame with the Expos up 3-0.

Yankton tied it in the fourth with a run then took its first lead in the top of the seventh with three runs.

Wynot got a run back in the eighth but the Tappers would score one in the ninth and sealed the game.

Heimes paced the Expos in the win over Freeman on the road.

Heimes was 4-for-5 at the plate including a first-inning double, and singles in the sixth, eighth and ninth innings while driving in a couple of Wynot runners.

The teams were tied at two after the first six outs and the tally remained deadlocked until the Expos scored four runs in the top of the eighth.

Heimes opened the eighth with a single on a line shot up the middle.

Lammers stepped to the plate and belted a double past the left fielder.

Peyton Wieseler was intentionally walked then Ryan Heimes hit a ground ball to the shortstop which forced Lee Heimes out at home.

David Schenk was hit by the Blacksox pitcher to score Lammers and move everyone up a base before a Dylan Heine single into right field scored Peyton Wieseler to make it 4-2.

Colin Wieseler grounded into a fielder’s choice which forced Ryan Heimes out at home then Landon Wieseler rifled a single to left field which scored Schenk and Heine and the Wynot lead was up to 6-2.

Freeman scored two in the bottom of the eighth then Lee Heimes and company got back after it in the ninth.

Heimes singled to open the Expos’ ninth, then, after a fly out, Peyton Wieseler worked a walk.

Ryan Heimes stepped to the plate and singled into right field which loaded the bases.

Schenk hit a single into left scoring Lee Heimes.

After another fly out, Colin Wieseler walked to push Peyton Wieseler home and the the at bat ended with the Expos in front, 8-5.

The Expos head to Crofton July 3 for the Fourth of July date with the Bluejays then travel to Lesterville on July 10.
