RANDOLPH - The District 45 school board purchased a 48-passenger school bus in action at a special meeting held Friday evening.
The board purchased a Ford chassis from Havorka Motor Co., which submitted a low bid of $2,545.49.
Low bidder on the bus body was Superior Sales of Nebraska of Omaha in the amount of $3,325.00, which was accepted by the board.
The bids include all transportation to Randolph.
It is expected that the bus will be delivered here in time for operation when the school term starts this fall.

RANDOLPH - Fire of undetermined origin was discovered Sunday along the railroad rightof- way a mile west of Randolph, burning toward a railroad bridge.
Firemen were summoned at about 6:45 p.m. to extinguish the blaze. There was no damage.
The fire department answered a call to the Merle Thelen farm Tuesday morning where a tractor had caught on fire. Mr. Thelen successfully controlled the blaze with a fire extinguisher by the time the department arrived.
Considerable damage was done to the wiring system on the tractor.

RANDOLPH - Rodney Patent and Greg Witte are among about 380 of Nebraska’s top ranking high scholars who have been selected to attend a three-day program of science lectures at the University of Nebraska beginning Monday, June 28.
The best of the Nebraska students were selected on the basis of recommendation of their high school teachers. They will attend the Holiday Science lectures, sponsored jointly by the University and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
The students will hear and visit with Dr. Gordon MacDonald, a geophysicist at the Univ. of California.

RANDOLPH - A two-truck accident northwest of Randolph Saturday evening resulted in personal injury and total loss of one of the vehicles involved, a pickup.
The mishap occurred as Howard Gubbels, 16, came over the crest of a hill in the pickup and James Starkel, 15, was making a left turn off the road into a farm field. The Gubbels vehicle struck the Starkel truck box.
Howard was treated by a local physician following the accident.
On Sunday he was admitted to the St. Joseph hospital at Osmond, for observation and treatment for a slight shoulder separation, injured ribs, cuts and bruises. The Starkel youth was not injured.
State Trooper Bill Johnson of Plainview covered the accident.
He said charges of unlawful use of a learner’s permit would be filed against James Starkel and charges of not using a license on a truck would be filed against the youth’s father.

RANDOLPH - Mr. and Mrs. John Rohloff have moved from the Jonas apartments to the house in east Randolph they recently purchased from the Rohloff estate. Lawrence Kalvelage has moved into the apartment vacated by the Rohloffs.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hamilton and family have moved to the Clifford Jones acreage property which the Hamiltons recently purchased.
