1915: County valuation shows a decline

June 25, 1915

HARTINGTON — The Board of Equalization adjourned Tuesday.

The actual valuation of personal property as shown by the assessment book is $7,824,420, not including express, telephones or railroads.

This is about $100,000 less than the actual value of 1914. The assessed valuation is one-fifth of the above amount.

The total assessment in Hartington topped all of Cedar County with $617,550 in property valuation. Randolph had the second highest valuation in the county with $400,690.

Laurel’s $357,620 in valuation was third in the county, while Coleridge was fourth with $291,585 in valuation and Wynot was next with $151,650.

Belden and Magnet were also listed. Belden with $130,895 in valuation, while Magnet had a 1915 valuation of $59,025.

HARTINGTON — The commencement exercises, the closing event of one of the most successful years in the history of Holy Trinity school, were held on Thursday night of last week at the K of C Hall and were largely attended.

The graduation address was delivered by Rev. Father O’Sullian of Tilden.

His remarks were intended for the inspiration of the class which consisted of four young women, Misses Cecelia Walz, Catherine Lauer, Antonetta Foerster and Dorothy Arnett.
