Hartington Juniors pick up three more wins

HARTINGTON — The Hartington Post 4 Junior Legion used three rather lopsided wins at Felber Park over the past week to improve to 8-0 on the season.

Post 4 defeated South Sioux City 15-0 on June 13, handled the Lesterville Teeners 9-0 on June 11 and defeated Hooper-Scribner 7-1 to open the week back on June 9.

Hartington jumped on South Sioux City from the beginning, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first.

Post 4 added a couple in the second, four in the third and three in the fourth to set the 15-run rule into effect and end the game.

Rylan Fischer did the honors in the bottom of the fourth, scoring on a wild pitch after being hit by a pitch earlier in the frame.

Tate Fischer went the distance on the hill, allowing just two hits and no runs while recording six strikeouts.

Easton Hochstein blasted a triple and scored twice, Micah Cattau and Gavin Klug each hit two-run singles.

Grady Haberer, Rylan Fischer and Cattau also scored twice on the evening.

Pitching led the way in the game with the Lesterville Teeners.

Haberer and Dawson Dresden combined to throw a no-hit shutout at the visitors from the north.

Haberer went three innings and struck out two, Desden went two innings and kept Lesterville from crossing the plate and hit less.

Hunter Bensen and Cattau each smacked doubles and drove in a run, Cattau scored twice.

In the 7-1 win over Hooper-Scribner, Post 4 scored first with three runs in the opening frame, then added a run in the second.

Hudson Whitmire opened the first for Hartington, reaching first on an error by the Hooper-Scribner shortstop.

Tate Fischer promptly laced a single past the shortstop leaving Whitmire on third and runners at the corners.

After a strikeout, Whitmire scored on a passed ball which left Fischer on third then scored on a ground out by Haberer.

Hochstein stepped to the plate and rifled a line shot past the right fielder and circled the cases for an inside the park home run.

Cattau got the win on the mound going two innings allowing no hits and no runs while striking out four of the six batters he faced.

Sam Wiebelhaus and Bensen finished it up with Wiebelhaus going four frames and allowing one hit striking out five and Bensen pitched the fifth allowing a hit and the run for Hooper-Scribner.

The Post 4 Juniors will embark on a long road trip this week, opening the week at Hank Overin Field to take on the Wayne Rolling Hills Post 43 Junior Legion on June 18 in Ralph Bishop action.

Hartington will travel south for three games, June 19 against St. Paul Legion Post 119, June 20 with the Loomis Junior Legion team and June 21 against the High-Line Bulls Post 290 Juniors.

Another league game is set for June 23 on the road against Wisner-Pilger/Howells-Dodge.
