Ag Days

Laurel is getting ready for the Annual Father’s Day weekend event

LAUREL — The annual Laurel Ag Days are right around the corner. Annually held over Father’s Day weekend, this town treasure will begin on June 12th and run through the 15th.

Co-chair of the Chamber Community Club board, Craig Gutz shared that the Ag Days are meant for all ages to enjoy.

“It’s that celebration for everybody to get together and enjoy what this community has to offer to families, individuals, everybody alike,” said Gutz. “We’ve got events that are for every age group… there are a lot of people that put together a bunch of events to try and make it so that there’s something for everybody to enjoy and have a nice weekend in summer.”

This year’s activities start at 3 p.m. Thursday, when the newest food truck, Jersey Sweet Ice Cream, will be in the Citizens State Bank parking lot. Then, from 6-8:30 p.m., there will be free admission to the public pool for the annual pool party and ping pong ball float. Following the closure of the pool will be the family driv e-in movie night held in the Haskell Field Parking lot until 11:30 p.m. and will be showing Disney’s Zootopia, said Gutz.

Friday will kick off at 9 a.m. with the co-ed sand volleyball tournament, a self-guided tour of LCC High School and the start of community-wide garage sales. Maps and tickets can be in the city office, Citizens State Bank and Security Bank. The Fun Pianos Show will be held from 8-11 p.m. at the Laurel Community Center. Tickets for the event are now $40 per person or $275 for a table. Attendees must be 21 or older to enter.

Saturday is jam-packed, starting at 8 a.m. with a new addition to the celebration with the Laurel Farmers Market. The market will be in the parking lot of the Laurel Community Center, and the senior center will be holding an open house with coffee and rolls. Also , at 8 a.m., registration for the Ag Days Fun Run/Walk begins. Hosted by the LCC cross country team and located in the city park, the run will start at 8:30 a.m.

For parade floats and participants, the registration for the parade begins at 9:30 a.m. and is in front of the Hillcrest Care Center on Oak Street. For onlookers, the parade starts at 10:30 a.m. and will travel along Main Street.

Food trucks will be set up in the park from 11-3 p.m. The tractor show/drive will be in front of the sale barn at 11:30 a.m. and will mark the beginning of registration for the kiddie tractor pull, which starts at noon.

The alumni and reunion events begin at 3 p.m. with the all-class reunion at Laurel VFW, followed by the LCC Alumni Association Banquet located at LCC High School at 5:30 p.m.

Sunday rounds out the event with the VFW Father’s Day breakfast from 8-12:30 p.m. at the LCC High School and the Father’s Day golf tournament at 10 a.m. at the Cedar View Country Club.

Planning this yearly event is nonstop said Gutz. Meetings are held at least once a month, and bookings for the next year typically begin the month after the previous event is held.

Gutz thanks Citizens State Bank and Security Bank for their sponsorships, as well as the chamber member businesses and associate members.

“Our members allow us to have the funds to be able to make this a thing, because without all of our chamber businesses and sponsors, none of this would be possible,” said Gutz.
