HARTINGTON — The Lewis & Clark Natural Resources District has announced a public hearing for the proposed Cedar-Knox Rural Water Project for June 18.
The purpose of the hearing is to summarize the project’s status, discuss project rules and regulations, the cost to users, area served and desirability of the project, according to NRD Director Tom Moser.
Moser said the project is designed to carry water for domestic and livestock use to households in Cedar and Knox counties and the village of St. Helena, at an estimated cost of $2.2 million.
“At present time we have an adequate number of signed and paid users for the project,” Moser said.
“Household users outside of St. Helena pay a one-time hook-up fee of $400 for the water service to help finance the balance of construction costs.

HARTINGTON — Local baseball teams are the first to enjoy new lighting, which was installed at Felber Park this month.
The new lights were purchased by the city and installed at a cost of $36,000. Volunteers helped with the project, including high school students and volunteers from Nebraska Public Power. Replacement of the old light bulbs was getting expensive, according to City Councilman Tom Noecker, and the cost of running new lights is about half that of the old. Extra lights also were installed to illuminate parking area. Fifty-one of the metal halide lights were placed on eight poles.
