HARTINGTON — There were 34 Cedar County 4-H Clover Kids and 15 youth and adult volunteers gathered at the Hartington Felber Park Shelter House June 4 for the annual Cedar County 4-H Clover Kid Camp, sponsored by the Cedar County 4-H Council. The event was coordinated by Jackie Steffen, Nebraska Extension Early Childhood Educator, for 4-H Clover Kids ages 5–7.
Throughout the afternoon, Clover Kids rotated through five engaging, hands-on educational sessions designed to develop their skills through a “learn-bydoing” approach.
This year’s camp focused on nature education. Youth learned about birds of Nebraska and explored how different beak shapes are uniquely adapted to a bird’s diet and habitat. They turned ordinary rocks into decorative picture holders and got creative with horticulture and floriculture by designing special 4-H containers to help organize their plant tags for the fair. They also investigated animal tracks and created their own animal track books using rubbing plates.
Projects created during camp will be on display at the Cedar County Fair and will receive rainbow ribbon placings. Be sure to stop by the fair July 17–20 to view their creative work and celebrate the efforts of our youngest 4-H members.
