Juniors are still unbeaten

HARTINGTON - The Hartington Post 4 Junior Legion baseball team remained unbeaten for the 2025 season after sending Ponca packing after a 13-2 win at Felber Park on June 4.

Post 4 essentially put the game away in the second inning, scoring eight runs in the frame to give starting pitcher, Micah Cattau all the help he needed.

Hartington ended any comeback hopes with five additional runs in the fourth and the finals score was set after Ponca scored a couple of runs in the top of the fifth before the game was called by the 8-run rule in the bottom of the inning.

Cattau sat Post 117 down in order in the first two innings with a couple of ground outs, a couple of fly balls and two strikeouts, before the second-inning eruption of the Post 4 bats.

Easton Hochstein worked a walk then advanced to third on an errant pick-off attempt by the Ponca pitcher.

Cattau got aboard with a walk and Hoschstein scored during the at bat on a wild pitch.

Cattau stole second and then scored on a single by Sam Wiebelhaus into left field and Wiebelhaus advanced to second on the throw back to the infield.

After a Hartington strikeout, Wiebelhaus scored after stealing third and getting home on a passed ball while Gavin Klug was working a walk.

Two more walks by Tate Fischer and Hudson Whitmire then a double past the left fielder by Hunter Bensen scored two runs, but Post 4 was still not finished in the inning.

The Ponca pitcher plunked Grady Haberer then two additional walks started the baserunning merry-go-round.

Fischer scored on a wild pitch, Haberer scored on a wild pitch then Bensen was forced home by a walk and when the smoke cleared, Hartington was in front 8-0 heading into the third.

Easton Hochstein, Wiebelhaus, Dawson Dresden, Gavin Klug and Hudson Whitmire all scored in the fourth with Fischer getting the big hit with a double which scored one of the runs.

Hartington pitching allowed just one hit in the game as Cattau and Dresden pitched the five innings of the contest.

Fischer did the most damage at the plate going 2-for-2, scoring once and driving in a run and walking twice.

The Post 4 Juniors were set to host Scribner-Snyder in Ralph Bishop League action on June 9, before home dates with Lesterville out of South Dakota on June 11 and South Sioux City on June 13.
