Expos streak ends at five

YANKTON — The Wynot Expos came into last week’s action on a four-game winning streak and extended the streak to five with a come-from-behind 8-7 win over the Menno Mad Frogs in Wynot on June 5.

The Yankton Tappers halted the streak June 8 with a 12-6 win over the Expos in Yankton.

The Tappers jumped out to a 6-0 lead over Wynot after scoring two runs in the first, one in the second and three in the third before the Expos answered with a couple of runs in the top of the fourth.

Yankton responded in the bottom of the frame with three more runs then grabbed a couple of insurance runs in the sixth and one in the eighth to hold on for the 12-6 win.

Colin Wieseler opened the Wynot fourth with a walk before Devon Lammers, who had a productive day at the plate despite the loss, got aboard on an error by the Yankton shortstop.

Ryan Heimes stepped to the plate and promptly doubled back up the middle past the center fielder, scoring Wieseler and leaving Lammers on third base with no one out.

Nate Wieseler laced a single into right field to chase home Lammers and put Heimes on third then Dylan Heine was walked on four pitches to load the bases.

Jackson Sudbeck hit a hard fly ball to right field which was caught then Nate Wieseler was doubled off of second base leaving runners at the corners with two outs.

Landon Wieseler flew out to right field and the Expos took the field for the Tapper’s half of the fourth trailing just 6-2.

The 3-run Yankton fourth pushed the advantage to 9-2.

Lammers doubled home Jalen Wieseler in the fifth, then clobbered a 3-run homer in the seventh to account for the Wynot runs on the night.

He would finish the game 2-for-5 from the plate with his hits being a double and a home run, and he drove in four runs.

Nate Wieseler finished 3-for-5 at the plate and drove in one Expo runner and Ryan Heimes was 2-for-4 with an RBI., Peyton Wieseler took the loss on the mound.

On June 6, in the game played in Wynot, the Menno Mad Frogs and Wynot remained scoreless through two complete innings before each team plated a run in the third.

Menno added four runs in the fourth and went up 7-1 heading into the home-half of the fifth.

The Expos started nibbling back on the lead in their at bat.

Sudbeck doubled with one out to start the comeback, then with two outs, the Mad Frogs mishandled a hard ground ball by Jalen Wieseler which scored Sudbeck.

Wieseler stole second then Lee Heimes singled on a line drive back up the middle and the teams went to the sixth with Wynot trailing, 7-3.

The Expos parlayed two hits, a double by Sudbeck and a single by Carson Wieseler; a walk and hit batsman into a couple of runs to make it 7-5.

A Jalen Wiseler home run in the eighth tied the game as his long ball sent Landon Wieseler across the plate and the team headed to the ninth deadlocked.

Sudbeck sat the Mad Frogs down in order in the top of the ninth with three strikeouts then Peyton Wieseler opened the bottom of the frame working a walk, then Dylan Heine was inserted to run for Wieseler.

Heine was thrown out trying to get into scoring position while Carson Wieseler was getting on board via another walk.

Ryan Heimes came to the plate and tried to sacrifice Carson Wieseler to second with a bunt, but the Mad Frog pitcher obliged by mishandling the bunt leaving runners on first and third with one out.

Nolan Ostrand walked to load the bases then Nate Wiesler walked in the winning run for the walk-o win.

The Expos will travel to Tabor June 12 in South Central League action before hosting Crofton on June 15.
