LAUREL - On Monday evening the automobile belonging to John Arp was stolen from the streets of Belden.
Mr. Arp on discovering the car gone, enlisted the aid of friends and went to South Sioux City to watch the bridge. Not having luck there the party returned home and decided to stop off in this city. Imagine their surprise when coming on to the main street of Laurel to find the car here.
They immediately got in touch with the marshal and when the car was approached a man was found asleep in the car. He was taken into custody by marshal Curtis and placed in the village jail.
The man has given two or three different names and claims to be from Norfolk, Osmond and other points west. That he is covering up is a foregone conclusion and the law is investigating him.
The car stolen was a Chevrolet sedan, and the thief left a Pierce county car, a Model T Ford on the streets of Belden in place of the car that was stolen.

LAUREL - Lois, little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kint of this city, died Sunday afternoon in the Methodist hospital in Sioux City, a victim of that dreaded disease pneumonia. She had been in the hospital the past two weeks where everything possible was done to save her life but her condition was such that little hopes were held for her recovery. Lois was a bright little girl of 5 years, 6 months and 2 days and was born in Belden on November 30, 1929. She lived right across the street from the editorial home and we are going to sorely miss her cheery and smiling “Hello” as we pass. Funeral services were held from the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Carmony officiating.
The casket bearers were Bill Roper, Leslie Paulsen, Dale Brogden, and Wayne Anderson. A quartette of young people furnished the music. They were Donna Fae and Frances Jeffrey and Bill Allison and Dean Jeffrey.
There was a large attendance of old time friends and neighbors from the Belden community where the family formerly lived. We join the many friends in extending deepest sympathy to the bereaved family in their great loss.

LAUREL - A number of changes and amendments to the former drivers license law are included in LB-185 which was signed by the governor May 10, 1945.
The director now has the authority when advised by law enforcement to cause the holder of any operators license to appear before an examiner for re-examination to determine whether or not he may qualify and keep in force his license.
A school permit may be issued to any person between the ages of 14 and 16. When applying for a school permit they must appear before a patrolman examiner to demonstrate he is capable of successfully operating a motor vehicle before the county treasurer can issue a permit.
This section also provides any person who has obtained the age of 15½ years may lawfully operate a motor vehicle over public roads, streets and alleys if he is, at all times, accompanied by a licensed driver who is actually occupying the seat beside the driver.
