CONCORD - The Concordia Lutheran Church congregation will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the church, June 5.
Ed Fredrickson, 85, is the only member of the original congregation now living and was present when it was organized 70 years ago in the railroad station.
Mrs. Chris Peterson, 91, and Gust Carlson, 88, are two of the oldest members.
Two former pastors will be present at the services. Luncheon will be served in the church parlors by the Dorcas Ladies Aid.

LINCOLN - Sen. Dwight Burney of Hartington proposed a half-cent increase in the gasoline tax. He said this would raise $2.5 million a year. Gov. Victor Anderson told Senators the plan had his full support. The proposal was acceptd by a 27-6 vote.

LAUREL - Marie Johnson of Dixon graduated from Luther Junior College in Wahoo Monday. She received her Associate of Arts degree in elementary education and was named valedictorian of her class. Miss Johnson was a 1958 graduate of Dixon High School.

LAUREL - Mrs. L.W. Kuhlman attended a picnic dinner at the John Paulsen home in Carroll. The dinner was a reunion of the Class of ‘49 of Carroll High School.

LAUREL - Baseball will make its debut in Laurel Sunday night at 8:15 when Bloomfield will invade the local diamond for an Elkhorn Valley Night League game.
Laurel has one defeat so far this year in league play. That was their season opener at Wayne Sunday, May 29. Wayne took this tilt 4 to 3, scoring the winning run in the eighth inning.
Laurel will play another road game June 2 at Winside.
A call has been issued for volunteer workers Sunday afternoon at the ball park. Plans are to construct a new wire fence down the first and third base lines.
Baseball officials have said that all workers would be welcome and the more present will make the job that much easier.

LAUREL - The annual piano, vocal and organ recital, presented by the students of Mrs. L. J. Mallatt, will be presented Friday evening at the city auditorium at 8 o’clock. The public is invited to attend.
