1945: Iler receives his discharge papers

June 7, 1945

RANDOLPH - T/Sgt. Dale H. Iler received an honorable discharge from the army the past week after passing through the army separation center at Ft. Leavenworth, Kans., and he is now in Randolph with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Iler, Sr.

Mr. Iler was in army service over seven years and the past year and a half was with the 119th Infantry troops in the European theater of war. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. His plans for the future are indefinite, but he will be here for some time.

June 7, 1945

RANDOLPH - Mrs. Caroline Beltz has received word of a citation to her son, Staff Sgt. Raymond W. Beltz for “meritorious achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy.” S/Sgt. Beltz is with the 6th Infantry Division, has been overseas two years.

The citation reads: “S/Sgt. Raymond W. Beltz, Infantry, U.S. Army, for meritorious achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy on Luzon, Philippine Islands from 9 January, 1945 to 30 April, 1945, Sgt. Beltz performed outstanding service in the supervision of civilian help employed in a division command post. He worked untiringly for long periods in supervising the construction of the command post and other problems that arise daily in a command post area. His ingenuity and resourcefulness in the use of native materials and labor were largely responsible for the rapid and efficient construction of the command post facilities. Sgt. Beltz’s ability and devotion to duty are deserving of high praise.”
