Schulte is named as new City Clerk

HARTINGTON — The city of Hartington's new City Clerk is not new to most local residents.

The Hartington City Council appointed Assistant City Clerk, Casey Schulte, last week as the new City Clerk/Treasurer.

She replaces Brittni Benscoter who held the position for nearly two years before resigning last month to take a position at Wayne State College.

Before being the deputy clerk for the past year, Schulte was the business office manager at Park View Haven in Coleridge, and before that was a Certified Nursing Assistant.

The past year as Assistant/Deputy Clerk with Benscoter helped ease Schulte into her new role.

“There’s a lot of different things that I didn’t realize the city has, ordinances and the meetings and all those kinds of things,” said Schulte.

Last year, Schulte also took on roles in assisting the Hartington Chamber with events but plans to scale back her involvement there to focus on her new responsibilities.

“Last year, we did a lot of stuff with the Hartington Dayz … but this year I’m stepping back from that,” said Schulte, “because I want to make sure I can get all this done.”

Schulte acknowledges there is still a lot to learn as she takes on more duties her counterpart used to manage.

“There is more paperwork … just different deadlines and the typing of the minutes and agendas,” said Schulte.

Meeting the deadlines is Schulte’s biggest challenge as she now handles the public notices and publishing of information. She said she is making sure to hit the right deadlines.

Schulte said she has always enjoyed serving the public. As city clerk, she looks forward to helping connect the city government and community.

“I like helping people understand the things that the city has,” she said.

Casey Schulte has taken over duties as the new Hartington City Clerk. She previously served as assistant City Clerk. The Hartington City Council is now in the process of looking for a replacement to fill her old position. Hannah Ryun | Cedar County News
