HARTINGTON - The Hartington Post 4 Senior Legion baseball team upped its record to 4-0 on the young season with three wins over the past week.
Post 4 hosted the Wakefield Post 81 BullSnakes on May 28 and eked out a 4-3 win, then traveled to take on the Plainview Post 148 Seniors on May 30, winning 11-8 then hosted the Crofton Seniors June 2 at Felber Park and won 2-1 in another tight game.
In the 1-run game against Crofton, Hartington used a walkoff walk to claim the game in the final frame.
Micah Cattau opened the Post 4 half of the inning with a walk, Mav Heine walked, Breiton Whitmire worked a walk to load the bases then Dylan Taylor walked to send Cattau across the plate and give Hartington the win.
Earlier in the game, Crofton took the intial lead in the top of the first with a run, but Post 4 answered in the third with a single run to even the score.
Heine opened the Hartington half of the fourth with a single on a line drive into centerfield. Breiton Whitmire hit a ground shot to first base and was out, but Heine advanced all the way to third base.
Heine would score on a passed ball and the game was tied and remained that way until the final Post 4 at-bat.
Whitmire hurled the first three innings and allowed the one run, which was unearned, while striking out seven Crofton batters and giving up just three hits.
Koby Detlefsen came on for the final four innings to pick up the win, holding Crofton hit-less and scoreless over the final four frames.
Post 4 jumped on Plainvew in the game played in Plainview, taking an 8-0 lead with two runs in the first, four in the second and two in the third, then held on for the 11-8 win.
Whitmire was 2-for-5 with a couple of runs driven in; Taylor was 2-for-4, scored three times; Detlefsen was 2-for-4, scored twice and drove in two and Grady Haberer had a hot night going 4-for-4, scoring twice and posting three RBI’s.
Detlefsen got the win on the hill registering seven strikeouts.
In the game with the Bull-Snakes, Brady Hochstein and Wakefield’s Jesse Lundahl locked horns on the mound.
Hochstein pitch 5.1 innings, allowed four hits and three runs while striking out 11 Post 81 batters and walking just one.
Lundahl went all six innings Post 4 batted, allowed five hits and struck out 12.
Whitmire came on in relief of Hochstein and picked up the win.
After Hartington crossed the plate in the first inning, the bats went silent until the fifth.
Post 4 loaded the bases in the fifth on an error, a single and a walk.
Lundahl plunked Whitmire to push Haberer across the plate then a Taylor single to centerfield scored Sam Wiebelhaus. The threat ended when the Bull-Snakes turned a double play.
Brady Hochstein singled with one out in the sixth then stole second base.
Hochstein stole third then Haberer ______________________________________ Hartington the lead and eventually the win.
Post 4 was set to take on the Pender Frontier Bank Post 55 Seniors June 3 in Hartington before taking on Ponca Post 117 in Ponca on June 4.
Hartington will play in the Lewis and Clark Tournament June 6 and June 7.
