4-H members taste success at 2025 Favorite Food Revue contest

HARTINGTON — Cedar County 4-H members showcased their creativity and food science expertise during the May 28 4-H Favorite Food Revue at the Hartington City Auditorium.

Twenty-one youth participants demonstrated their culinary skills by preparing themed table settings, complete with centerpieces.

Contestants prepared a single serving of their favorite dish for the judge, who evaluated them on various criteria including food preparation and appearance, menu planning, meal management, nutrition, table setting, and overall display and presentation. Most participants also brought sample-sized portions of their favorite food for other exhibitors and their families to try, along with copies of their recipes to share. This event highlighted the impressive talents and knowledge of the 4-H members in the realm of food science.

In the Clover Kid Division (ages 5-7), receiving a rainbow participation ribbon were Ethan Brodersen, son of Tammie & John Brodersen of Hartington; Emily Feilmeier, daughter of Kacie & Dave Feilmeier of Hartington; Korbyn Gubbels, son of Kathi & Andy Gubbels of Hartington; Brooklyn Heimes, daughter of Julie & Steve Heimes of Wynot; Halley Lewon, daughter of Brooke & Mitch Lewon of Newcastle; Levi Mann, son of Kayla & Austin Mann of Hartington; and Robbie Wuebben, son of Anne & Craig Wuebben of Fordyce.

In the Junior Division (ages 8-11), receiving blue ribbons were Brady Heimes, son of Julie & Steve Heimes of Wynot; and Eliza Feilmeier, daughter of Kacie & Dave Feilmeier of Hartington; Grace Brodersen, daughter of Tammie & John Brodersen of Hartington; Kate Brodersen, daughter of Tammie & John Brodersen; and Alma White, daughter of Laura & Anthony White of Laurel. Receiving purple ribbons were Kaylin Kathol, daughter of Katrina & Tyler Kathol of Hartington; Heidi Lewon, daughter of Brooke & Mitch Lewon; Lane Lewon, son of Brooke & Mitch Lewon; Ashley Schmit, daughter of Jessica & Nick Schmit of Coleridge; and Clara Wuebben, daughter of Anne & Craig Wuebben of Fordyce. Receiving a purple ribbon and the Junior Division Top Exhibit rosette was Emily Erwin, daughter of Carol & Josh Erwin of Laurel.

In the Intermediate Division (ages 11-13), receiving a purple ribbon and the Intermediate Division Top Exhibit rosette was Tenley Schmit, daughter of Jessica & Nick Schmit.

In the Senior Division (ages 1418), Adelyn Reifenrath, daughter of Sarah & Mike Reifenrath of Wynot received a purple ribbon. Elsie Haahr, daughter of Marie & Jason Haahr of Wynot, received a purple ribbon, the Senior Division Top Exhibit rosette, and was awarded as the Overall Favorite Food Revue Top Exhibitor.

Kim Bearnes and Aurora Urwiler judged the event and provided excellent comments and encouragement to all the participants.

Burnell’s Foodtown sponsored a Gift Card for the Overall Favorite Food Revue Top Exhibit Award.
