COLERIDGE — Fire completely destroyed a brooder house at the Carl Lentz farm east of Coleridge Friday morning.
The Coleridge Fire Department was called out to help fight the blaze. There were no chickens in the house at the time of the fire, but the Lentz family had planned to put chickens in the following day.
It is believed the fire was caused by shorted wires. Damage was estimated at $200.

COLERIDGE — An estimated 660 dinners were served on Memorial Day at the Legion Hall. The dinner was served by the Ladies’ Cemetery Association. As in past years many former Coleridge residents renewed acquaintances here that day.

COLERIDGE — The Coleridge baseball team outdistanced Randolph 11-7 Sunday night in a loosely played typical early season game.
A total of nine errors were committed, six by Randolph. Coleridge held a 11-2 lead at one stage in the game, but Randolph came within striking distance with a four run eighth inning.
A good crowd witnessed the game in spite of threatening weather. Karl Kletschke pitched good ball for the winners, however Randolph bunched their hits in the third, seventh and eighth innings. Kletschke gave up eight hits and struck out 13.

COLERIDGE — J. L. Wohlman, 71, resident of the Tri-State Nursing Home, died suddenly from a heart attack while sitting visiting near the home Tuesday afternoon. He had resided at the home for the past year. Mr. Wohlman had been a longtime resident of Cedar County. His survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Adolph Brodersen of Randolph. The body was taken to the Smith Funeral Home at Hartington. Funeral arrangements had not been completed Wednesday morning.

LAUREL- Honors were conferred on graduation seniors at Laurel High at the 60th annual graduation exercises. Janice Mohr was named valedictorian and received the state college scholarship.
She was also named winner of a Regents scholarship. Ida Kastrup was salutatorian. Virginia Otteman is the Regent scholarship alternate. Lois Hubbard won the Maun Memorial for her winning essay on Americanism. Legion awards went to Carolyn McCullough and Perry Ebmeier.

DIXON- Around 134 women from Dixon county attended the Orange City tulip festival Sunday. Four buses were chartered.

DIXON- Marie Johnson will be graduated from Luther Junior College, Wahoo in commencement exercises at the college campus. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Johnson of Dixon and is an elementary education major.

COLERIDGE — Rodney Koch, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mynor Koch of Hartington, was killed early last Friday morning when the car which he was driving left the road and crashed into a ditch a mile and a half north of Coleridge on Highway 15.
John Farrelf, 21, of Emmetsburg, Iowa, a passenger in the car, escaped with injuries and was taken to the Wayne hospital. It was believed that the driver had fallen asleep as the car had gone off the road for about 35 yards before hitting a rock and plunging into a deep ditch. The automobile was traveling south at the time of the accident.

COLERIDGE — Jerome Haberer, farmer west of Coleridge suffered a hand injury on Friday when working with some machinery. He was admitted to the Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton and is now having skin grafting done on his hand.

COLERIDGE — A cow owned by George Pfund came through with a double header last week as it gave birth to twins. Not too unusual, you say? No, having twins is not unusual except this is the second year in a row that the proud mother has given birth to twin calves.

COLERIDGE — The Coleridge Junior Legion won a close game with Emerson 1-0 Sunday after an excellent display of pitching by both pitchers.
Tom Morrison, who struck out 10 of his opponents while going the distance, scored the only run of the day when he connected with a homerun to win the game in the fourth inning. Don Dittman of Emerson also displayed fine form when he struck out 15 batters.
